By the turn of events, I ended up spending Christmas 2019 in Yerevan, Armenia. It was beautiful; the city full of lights, people, live outdoor music in the city center, and people strolling in the chill winter cold.

One afternoon I was walking down a street when an adorable little girl looked up at me and smiled. With her contagious smile, I smiled back, but couldn’t help but feel so sorry, her maxillary anterior #9 (upper front tooth) was black. I wanted to stop her and tell her to brush and floss every day, but it didn’t feel entirely appropriate.

This encounter reinforces the need for dental health education in Armenia. I am ever motivated to make a great difference for our beautiful children.
